July at the Lake
A new series of five small oil paintings based on a prairie lake in Saskatchewan. Painted over a few days during summer, each study captures a similar shoreline view: low treelines, muted fields, and the soft, time-worn light of prairie summer. Painted onsite and from recent memory these landscapes focus on atmosphere and colour.
Painting in Oil on Paper
The first time I painted in oil on paper I fell in love. Like most people, I used to think that oil paintings live on canvas and wood panels (and they’re not wrong) but paper offers something a little different.
Looking again
Returning to the same tree, season after season shapes my painting process. Thoughts on observing light, color, movement and life from the garden.
