Oil on Paper
Why oil on paper?
Many of my works are made using oil paints on specially prepared paper. The texture and feel of paper results in a delicate and unique piece that suits the style of my work.
How do you prevent oil paint from damaging the paper?
I always start with archival quality papers. The paper must be "sized", meaning it is prepared with a protective coating. Some papers are prepared by hand with medium or gesso, and others are sized during manufacturing.
Does the artwork have a protective varnish? Yes, I use Gamvar gloss varnish to seal and protect the piece.
Is the artwork durable? Yes! Once the artwork is dry and varnished, the surface is protected from dust, light scratches and fading. It is important to remember that any artwork on paper should be displayed in a way that prevents moisutre.
How should I care for my oil painting? Oil paintings should be kept out of direct sunlight and high humidity. Your piece can be framed behind glass for extra protection. The surface can be dusted with a soft cloth.
Can I frame this artwork without glass? Yes! I love the look of oil paintings framed without glass as much as with. However, this will depend on where you place the painting. I typically recommend a layer of glass if your piece will be placed in a high traffic, humid or sunny space.
Are works on paper painting ready to hang? Yes and no. Your piece will be dry, varnished and ready for framing. However, there is no hanging hardware or frame included with artworks on paper. I would recommend bringing your new artwork to a professional framer to ensure it's longevity.

This painting is sealed with a protective varnish and does not require glass. There are several ways to frame oil paintings on paper, depending on the look you prefer. I’m always happy to offer guidance, or you can consult your local framer for options that suit your space.
All materials used in this painting are archival, and proper care is important to keep it looking its best. By purchasing this piece, you acknowledge responsibility for keeping it in a stable environment, away from direct sunlight, moisture, high humidity, and extreme temperature changes.

Packaging matches the size of the piece: work under 9x12 inches ship in a rigid mailer, wrapped in glassine and protective padding; larger pieces are carefully packed in sturdy boxes to ensure safe delivery.
Buyers are responsible for any import duties or taxes. Delivery times vary by location.
Returns are accepted per Etsy policy. If you’d like to start a return, please photograph the piece upon arrival contact me. Return shipping must be insured and will be at the buyers expense.
