The last week of January

Hello! To be honest with you, I feel like I get a bit stuck figuring out what to write in these blogs. I used to write a lot - A LOT, a lot. Though, never really for fun (I mean, it was fun at the time) but only for school - and a very different style of writing than what you’d see in a blog post. I think that’s what gets me feeling a bit stuck - as if these need to be a formal piece of writing - when I’d rather write in a more stream of conscious/off the top of my head way. A first draft, if you will.

So, my plan over the next year is to post at least one blog post per month. Any more than that are bonus posts. And I’m not going to worry about writing conventions. Mostly for two reasons: first, I just want to get the ideas out, and I’d rather not spend my time on editing and getting my written grammar perfect; and second, well, it’s really just a bit more enjoyable (and if you don’t like this style of writing, that’s ok, I won’t be offended when you click away, lol).

My hope is that it will work well for both of us - you get to know me a little bit more, and I get to ramble around and flesh out some ideas and thoughts on my art. So now that you’re up to speed…

Does anyone else feel like this month has been a year long? I suppose that maybe feels like a bit too light-hearted considering the state of the world right now - though I’m not going to touch on that too much here (see my reposts on instagram).

As for my time in the studio - things have been fairly busy! I’ve sold seven paintings over the month, started a class/mentorship with an artist I really admire, had a milestone birthday, endured what’s felt like a month of -50C (which honestly, I sort of love), released a new collection, and of course - did a lot of drawing and painting.

I’m looking forward to what this year has in store: I’d like to get some prints going, I’m slowly but surely developing a collection on linen and cradled panel, and I have plans to upscale the size of my paintings. Plus - I’m really looking forward to devoting every warm bit of the year to plein air painting - only a few more months until we get there!

That’s probably enough for now, so I’ll leave you with a few photos of the last week in the studio :)

Until next time,

Laura
