Morning in the Garden, Yellow was painted in the middle of prairie winter. Drawing on memory and familiarity, this muted and atmospheric piece captures the feeling of unhurried, early summer mornings in the garden, cool air, soft light, a sketchbook and a hot cup of tea.
The painting is made on linen stretched over a birchwood cradled panel. It is sealed with varnish and a layer of cold wax which provides a more matte finish and suits the natural quality of the linen that shows through in parts. The artwork wraps all the way to the edges, so the piece is fully resolved on every side and ready to hang.
My work is an impression shaped as much by feeling and memory as by the subject in front of me. The time and care behind my process is reflected in the small variations that come from working by hand - resulting in artwork that is inviting and familiar, as if it's always been in your home.
